There Are Rocks Everywhere

“To you I call, O Lord my Rock” – Psalm 28:1
“And the rock was Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 10:8

A creek in Bolivia is polluted.
Neighbors pee straight into it.
Aim for the floating plastic bottles.
At the edge of the town is a drop-off.
There yellow creeks over soft stones become blue life.

In Bolivia, thirsty drunks throw rocks
Because shattered glass sounds like rain
And broken things are still useful.
Children line the streets and shine shoes.
They are high on the fumes when customers leave.
Kids vomit into the creek with laughter.

They puke out the rocks inside of them.
Mothers give birth to stillborn stones.
Strangers give granite kisses; the drugs give none.
At the drop-off lives an old woman.
She cries pebbles and arranges them into patterns

Like yellow creeks over soft stones becoming blue life.
